What people ate years ago are not the same foods we eat today. So many people are on the go that they grab a quick coffee and some type of pastry. Sometimes they go through a drive-in fast food for an egg sandwhich with a drink. Much of Europe eats pastry for breakfast and then a big lunch followed by a big dinner. In Ireland we eat a big breakfast. Not much has changed. It starts off with beans, salmon, a couple of eggs, hashbrowns but real potatoes, sausage and if you desire toast. I still eat my own small amount of roasted potatoes reheated with a poached egg and toast. I always start off with fresh fruit first. In the southwest and southern parts of the United States their breakfasts contain buscuits and gravy with the eggs, hashbrowns and toast if desired. There are a variety of breakfasts in Italy including pastries, eggs if you desire and rolls or toast with Nutella. Many people still eat lunch. In the states it is usually some type of sandwhich. Italy generally has a sit down meal and Ireland depends upon the amount of time you have to eat. They often hit a pub for a quick bite. Today many people are always in a rush. Families do not always eat together. We still do. My daughter and I frequently eat some type of potato even if she eats a chicken sandwhich. My granddaughter is generally not intrested in potatoes. Often people receive foods delivered which vary depending upon the menu. What do you do? In the Good Gus series all foods were homemade.
