Normal

the special gift  How does anyone define normal in this world today? Our everyday lives are no longer normal.  Once COVID hit everything changed around the globe.  People stopped commuting to work, online sales increased dramatically, people argued over wearing masks, plus violence increased to a startling amount. We seem, particularly in the United States, to live in continual fear.  How do we teach our children what was once our normal lives?  We had the freedom to play outdoors without fear of being kidnapped. We sent our children to school with positive thoughts and not the horrible shootings that have occured in elementary schools which is too shocking.  So how do we define normal?  Families rarely eat meals together at a table.  The parents and children are on their phones, watching their tablets  or the television.  There is little or no conversation and then they wonder why their children went down the wrong path, tried drugs, became bullies or joined a gang. We really need to return to family meals, conversations and discussions. For example, when my children were little, I would read to them while they ate breakfast.  As they progressed in age I read chapter books such as “The Blue Willow Plate” and “The Indian in the Cupboard,” just to name a few.  Needless to say they are avid readers today as are my grandchildren. In the Good Gus series, there is a yet unpublished book entitled “The New Library.” I wanted to show the value and importance of reading.  It is the real reason I started writing children’s books. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Hard copies, personally autographed, are available through our website www.goodgusbooks.com along with past blogs for your reading enjoyment. Digitizing for all the books will be ready next week! Please consider adding “The Special Gift” as a new Christmas tradition. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
