America has become desensitized. When a crime occurs such as a shooting it almost seems normal. People do not get very upset. I find it appalling. Their comments are always, “That is how it is now,” “Well they had their reasons,” etc. No, none of it should happen or exist. People are continually being hurt and it is not necessary. We need to return to caring about of neighbors, family, friends and even strangers. Facebook continually posts about people helping others and doing good deeds. Being kind is free. People are constantly worried about money and they don’t wish to part with it for any reason. Yet, helping a fellow human being doesn’t take much effort. I saw a post the other day about a woman who was at the grocery in Texas. She was mentally adding what she was going to purchase and then started putting items back. The man in front of her was watching her and then he said, “Keep all your items, your groceries today are on me!” She was not buying junk food but actual food items such as potatoes, vegetables, inexpensive meats, etc. She posted so everyone would know. That was a man who clearly was not desensitized. We are exposed to so much data that we tend to lose track of the really important things in life such as kindness, being grateful, and treating others with respect.
