Conscious

Do people even have a conscious any more? I really wonder. There is so much crime, so much violence, so much theft it seems impossible.  Businesses are closing, particularly in the greater San Francisco area, due to extreme theft. There are even corporate offices leaving the area. Los Angeles isn’t any better.  Celebrities are moving because of the increase in crime.  There are homeless camps everywhere and the worst part is that many of the people who are offered homes are refusing them. People are obviously taking sides regarding the wars.  There should be negotiations rather than more bombings. In the estate planning business you would be amazed how many people do not have a conscious.  They change their minds after months  and want  free work. They lie and often cheat the attorneys by stopping payment on checks and credit cards. Where did the world go wrong? In many of the old TV shows, the writers made a point of doing the right thing.  They pointed out the importance of feeling guilty for doing wrong things.  They tried to get children to have a guilty conscious and then own up to their wrong doings. Once the parents made the discovery the children were punished.  They talked about hitting but it never actually occurred. We were all raised with rules that just do not exist any more.  In “Misplaced Trust” one of the stories is about a son who made his mother homeless and penniless.  She never did anything wrong as a mother and when he had problems she always helped him and stood by him. Yet, the reality is that even though she thought she taught him right from wrong, she somehow failed.  It is also possible that the woman he married wanted all of the mother’s money and eventually convinced him to steal everything.  That is not the only story.  It’s just one of many. Do you know people who no longer have a conscious? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
