Almost everything in life is measured. It’s not just about inches, feet, centermeters, etc. People compare and measure their lives against others. They really shouldn’t but they do. They feel the need to compare to see just how they measure up. For example, if your neighbor has a new car and yours is quite old, how does that make you feel? For many people they instantly have a need to purchase a better vehicle. This is true if a friend has a big house. Somehow you feel you need an even larger one. I used to work with an attorney who was single and still is. He bought a nice house near the ocean in California and had it upgraded. It was a two bedroom two bath home. He still has it today. However, his sister, also single with no children bought a much larger home than his. Of course, he then purchased a larger home on a hill overlooking the ocean. It was over one million U.S. dollars or one million ninety thousand Euros. He decided it needed too much work and it definetly did not measure up to his sister’s home. What do you think he did? He had it demolished and then rebuilt a new one. The fact that he had to go to all that trouble just to prove he was better than her and had a much nicer home was crazy. When you see the TV shows particularly in Canada the homes seem to be really large. Of course, there are large homes in America and Europe as well. I like a nice ranch with enough space to live comfortably. Of course, most of these people have cleaning personnel so they don’t have to worry about size and they are wealthy enough to afford the utilities. During the course of our lives there may have been times when we were told we simply didn’t measure up. It truthfully shouldn’t matter. We are all, well most of us, good people, and that should be enough. How do you feel about individuals being measured up? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
