The old saying fake it until you make is still applicable today. Many people pretend to be a success when in reality they are broke. They do foolish things such as lease expensive cars, buy look alike fashions, and rent or claim they live in expensive homes. They believe that if they pretend they are successful that they will succeed. Others who are important, who own businesses, might be willing to hire them so that they can actaully do well financially. Many individuals believe that if they dress for success, attend the right parties, functions and business gatherings they will automatically be looked upon as upscale and end up with a high paying position. It’s an old practice but sometimes it works. When I was young I did my best to look nice and choose the right clothing and shoes. It worked as one time when I was very young I applied for a job near my home. I was competing with a girl whose mother worked at the company at a different location. I arrived in a suit with matching shoes and purse. She wore a skirt with a blouse and flats. I was hired to work for the vice president and she was hired for the mailroom. I knew a man who had a mechanical engineering degree who worked at a large firm in the northeast. All the men wore the standard uniform namely a flannel shirt and kaky pants with thick rubber soled shoes. At that time my late husband and I owned a contract engineering firm and we were constantly placing individuals into various positions. The man really wanted to be promoted so we took him shopping with his wife. We made him buy dress pants, dress shirts, a real leather belt and real leather shoes with real leather soles. He started appearing at work with his new clothes. It was possibly three weeks before a manager from a larger facility was walking through the manufacturing area when he spotted him. He told the manager he wanted him for a very specific position. He was the only man truly dressed to impress. Needless to say, he went onward and upward. Sometimes it is worth it to fake it until you make it don’t you agree? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
