Roller Skates

When I was young roller skates were basiclaly “in.” I saved my babysitting money to buy a pair. I loved them. A few Satrudays a month I would go to my cousin’s  for the day and we would roller skate at a rink near her home for a few hours. All the boys loved her. She was a little older than me. Sometimes her brothers came along which was nice company. It was great fun. The roller skates were replaced by roller blades.Anywhere, just like with the roller skates, people would roller blade. When I lived in California and walked along the boardwalk at Mission Beach, you literally had to pay attention to where you were going as it was full of people roller blading. It seems that the roller skates are back. I now see a commerical with people skating doing trick glides. I even had a party once for one of my children and their friends at a roller rink. At that time the kids rented the skates.  Everyone had a good time and many of the kids found the roller skates easier to manipulate rather than the blades.  It also seems that the roller skates are back in style. There are rinks again with all types of programs.  They have have night skating with music, lights, and of course, snacks for the skaters.  It is a good idea as there are many walking paths that could be utilized for roller skating. Many people find the roller skates easier to handle than roller blades.  My daughter did both and was an excellent blader. She and her cousin would also go to Mission Beach when we lived there and blade up and down the boardwalk.  I like the idea of old styles coming back. As many children do not exercise nearly as much as we used to, it is a good way to help them strengthen their legs. What do you think?
