Older individuals and children understand neglect. There are a variety of forms of neglect. Many children do not receive the love and care they deserve. For example, I know a child that is truly neglected. Her father has primary custody. He is abusive, and starves her. He brings in plenty of money and leaves her alone to do food deliveries as he is always broke. She is too young to be left alone. Her life is extremely difficult but he is such a good liar that even though her mother has fought for a long time, he somehow manages to retain custody. The mother is a good person and she loves her child very much. The child also loves her but the father really doesn’t. People like him just really don’t care. The system is supposed to work yet I know of a few people in custody battles that do battle just to save their children. There is also the neglect of older individuals. There is a woman I have been working with whose mother was coerced into signed documents giving her home, all of her possessions and even an insurance policy to an alleged caregiver. I looked up the insurance company and their reviews are appauling. They literally swindle older people and this woman’s mother is also in that category. When the daughter looked up the alleged caregiver, the woman has had twenty allias just for starters. She has committed fraud to other older individuals as well. Here is the interesting twist. Within fourteen hours after the documents were signed the woman’s mother had to be rushed to the hospital and is on life support. This sounds like one of my stories from my book yet this is literally happening right now. The daughter was banned by the alleged caregiver from seeing her mother in the hospital. The worst part is that the daughter is currently fighting cancer, does not live near her mother, yet contiues to fight all the while still working. I will be interested in what happens next. If you know someone who is being neglected please find a way to help them. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
