Whenever you hear an audio book, watch a TV show, social media, or even read a book the public image of a person is always most important. In many of the shows if a person is wealthy their public image is everything. They often go to great pains to protect themselves and their families. I can easily understand that bad publicity is not good for anyone. Growing up if a nasty rumor was spread about in school, and the victim didn’t always find a way to clear their name, their lives became extremely difficult. One of the most common forms of the gossip was some form of jealousy followed by revenge. For example, in an old “Leave it to Beaver,” there was a class dance with another school. The boys’ dates were decided by a committee consisting of a small group of other classmates. As a few of the fellows wanted the best looking girls, and Wally was not only attractive and on the football team, they found a nice looking girl who was well over one foot taller than Wally. When he explained to his father, the dad basically told him to take it in his stride. He further said that by not taking the tall girl would probably ruin his public image. He also felt it would be unkind to the girl. Of course, Wally took her, she wore flats, and they had a great time. In many of the other stories, the writers always seem to have wealthy families marrying off their adult children to another wealthy family. Their public image is part of the reason why along with the obvious wealth of the other family. How their adult children may feel had no bearing on the issue. It’s the same plots but with different twists. Of course, with the political scene upon us, public image is very important. How do you feel about public image?
