If you scroll though social media on Facebook and YouTube, how often do you see short clips that include a threat? For example, “If you do not open this ad right you will have bad luck the rest of 2024.” Then there are the ads that use the threat that if you do not buy at that moment, the product will be gone, the price will rise, or your car insurance will increase. There are also all the Medicae ads that claim you can have a large sum of money with no strings attached. Seriously, they have to be kidding. There are always strings attached. I think that this is a terrible way to make sales. In most sales there are three factors, need, like and cost. Sure people may need something, but they may not like it. If they do like it the cost may be too high. When buying a car, the sales rep will first try to convince you that you need a particualar car. Well of course you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be on their lot. Convincing you to like it may take a little work but there are always ways around it. The cost is usually the biggest factor. The rep will go out of their way lowering the price, offering a warranty, free oil changes, etc. Anything to convince you to sign on the dotted line. When DeVvito, bragged about selling junk cars for high prices, it was a clear message to anyone thinking about making the purchase of a vehicle. He even sold one to Matilda’s school principal who held it against her as it was a piece of junk. I just don’t think using threats to force people to buy is the answer, do you?
