Words Have Consequences

Words have consequences yet simply saying sorry doesn’t really cover insulting words. When a couple, for example, has an argument, they often say terrible things to each other. Then when they have had enough one of the party may say sorry. How can that cover it?  You said terrible insulting words and just sorry doesn’t make it all better.  When speaking people should always think before they speak. It’s a common phrase yet most people ignore it. They will say anything and everything and think, “Well if I just say sorry it won’t matter.” Unfortunately it does.  I saw a joke yesterday about this very topic. A grandfather had taken his grandchildren to Sunday lunch. The youngest, before eating, asked to say Grace.  Everyone bowed their head. The boy said, “Thank you God for this nice meal with my grandpa. I would really love it if you would convince Grandpa to buy us ice cream for dessert.” Everyone around the family loved his prayer and smiled except one woman. She complained bitterly and loud enough so that the diners around the family could hear her. She felt the boy was wrong to ask God to request his Grandpa buy dessert. When the meal was finished, naturally Grandpa let them all have ice cream sundaes. The woman looked over and literally snorted at him. Once the boy had his ice cream sundae, he picked it up and gave it to the woman. He said, “God says to always be kind and give to others.” When he went back to his table, he told his Grandpa that she could put that ice cream sundae in a place that the sun doesn’t shine. Of course, the other diners had a good laugh and loved the entire scene. As you can see, though, words do have consequences. The woman had no right to judge. Have you ever noticed that words have consequences?  All you can  see are ads for Black Friday in the states although it is popular in the UK even though they do not have Thansgiving. It’s a good sales gimick. Beat the rush and the crowd. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
