Gardening

Gardening has become more popular than ever. With inflation and tariffs no one can afford anything. In my home we are growing scallions, lettuce, and trying tomatoes. We are starting small. Many people have already started tilling soil, buying plants and seeds. There are a few things to be aware of. For example, water hyacinths will absorb mircoplastics. They are a beautiful flower that proliferates at a rapid rate. According to a scientific study, a single plant can produce over five thousand seeds. The flowers are a lovely pink and purple.   A worm you need to be aware of is called the hammerhead worm. Only touch them with gloves. If you cut them in half they will multiply rapidly. The smart move is if you see one on your property  is to catch it with golves and place in a large container. Then drown it with salt and vinegar. Next bag them or it up and put it in your freezer for forty-eight hours. Then discard it.  I killed a spider the other day that didn’t look that big. Suddenly there were at least fifteen baby spides running around. I instantly took a bottle of diluted bleach and killed them and then cleaned up the mess. It was scary. Have you started gardening? In the Good Gus series practically everyone had a garden. The boys, J.C. and Bronco Band had to tend to their parents’ garden as part of their chores. I believe it is a good idea as my children tended a garden when they were young as well. In the book “Bandits come to Pecos,” racoons do eat the garden of the Band’s house that the boys worked on. The books are full of adventure and excitement. Book six is in the process of being illustrated now. There are all types of new gardening tools that may help you and then you can relax reading “Misplaced Trust.” It is an easy download for your tablet or if you prefer hard copies they will be in your local bookshop within two weeks. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
