Make a Difference

All the politicians running for office, regardless of what country they are in, always state that they will make a difference.  Here is the problem, they never do. Even back when we were in high school, whomever was running for student council, president of the class and any other offices that might be available they all said the same words.  Of course, the winners always promised more pizza and they were elected.  It didn’t matter as it was up to the school dietitian. When we all grew up we were told to be kind to others, say positive words, be polite, remember our manners, be considerate of others and don’t be loud or noisy. Many of us followed those suggestions or possibly rules, but others did not. They were the students who ended up in trouble, in detention or even suspended for a period of time.  In life today, many of us try to make a difference. People who donate their time, efforts, food, good clothing, vehicles and more are the individuals who truly want to make a difference.  Just giving money does help but it is the real effort to help others in need that matters. Sometimes just giving a few dollars to a homeless person may give them a chance to eat.  Not everyone who is homeless drinks or are on drugs. The celebrities, of course, donate money to the large organizations during a disaster.  What they fail to recognize is that a large portion of that money ends up in the paychecks of the overpaid executives. My late husband’s aunt quit a large charitable organization because all the contributions were going to the top brass and not to helping the people that they promised assistance to. In the Good Gus series, Sheriff Gus and many of the characters do make an effort to make a difference in the town of Pecos and for it’s citizens.
