Decency

What has happened to decency in today’s world?  Yesterday as I was browsing through Facebook, out of the blue appeared a woman wearing something to cover only certain parts of her body.  I was floored.  I am the person who likes ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch,’ ‘Full House,’ “Columbo,’ ‘Gilmore Girls,’ Canadian Family Feud, etc.  I also saw various articles that I did not read on the internet in the basic news about celebrities wearing little or nothing and even naked.  I grew up in an era where decency was important.  We did not show parts of our physique that was not appropriate.  I know that over time in TV shows, movies and apparently now on the internet showing flesh is the thing to do.  I don’t know if it makes them popular.  Are they trying to show off that their bodies are perfect and better than anyone else’s, gain viewers, or even new media contracts?  When my daughter was thirteen, her father would only allow her to wear Bermuda shorts even though shorter shorts were in style.  I just think it is not necessary that we all conform to wearing revealing clothing.  Modesty seems to have disappeared. Many of even the PG13 movies have risque’ attire on the characters.  While we are trying to keep our children as children, the movie and TV world are changing all of that.  Why can’t children be children as long as possible?  All too soon they have to grow up and face responsibilities.  Let’s give them time to just be a kid don’t you agree?
