Both adults, teens and even children no longer seem to understand the meaning of being unplugged. Everyone everywhere is attached to their phone, tablet, laptap, and any form of screen time via the media. I see children literally walk everywhere with their phones. Have you ever observed a family eating at a restaurant? What do you see? In between bites of food, everyone is literally on their phones. In many homes eating with some type of electronics is the norm. We all need to let go of at least some of the technology. Dinner time would be a good start. This is also true of breakfast. I can understand if a person is eating alone that some form of distraction might help them from feeling lonely. However, if a family is eating together all TV’s, tablets, and phones should not be present. Yet people seem to panic without their electronics. July 19, 2024 tech glitch was a nightmare for many people. There are still countries struggling to regain their technology for work. A long time ago, libraries were very important. You could open your world with a free book. The movie “Matilda” showed that simply by reading and in her case teaching herself how to read opened a whole new world for her. In “Young Shedon” reading was a top priority. Yet in many of the other TV shows today there is no mention of reading. When my children were in school there were reading goals and if everyone achieved them there were parties and a surprise. It gave them something to work towards. I read to my children while they ate breakfast everyday before they went to school. I always felt that it gave them something to think about before school rather than the drudgery of the daily routine. Of course, even today, when we eat as a family we still do not have technology present. You can’t even go hiking or camping without phone service now. Do you ever go unplugged?
