Invisible

As people age they become invisible to their families. They are also invisible in public. For example, a woman who worked at the Wells Fargo Bank, in Tempe, Arizona, passed away and no one noticed for four days. That was unbelievable. How did they not see her, notice she wasn’t moving, detect an odor, or that rigor mortis was setting in? People have quietly become invisible. In the new Paramount series, “Matlock,” which I love, Kathy Bates, who is seventy-seven,  stars as an older woman returning to work as an attorney. Due to the fact that she was invisible, she was able to go in and out of a law firm’s building in an effort to gaining a position. At the opening, she had been following an attorney that a particular law firm was in negotiation with. She went to the coffee shop he went to every day and then stood in line next to him. She also knew he discussed business from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. She knew what number they would agree to for a settlement. Then she continued again to manage to enter the law firm and then interrupt a meeting. Beau Bridges stars in this show as well whom I also enjoy as an actor. He really looks good for eighty-two. I must give credit to Paramount for employing older actors and actresses.  She barged into the meeting and basically informed them she wished to be hired. One of the attorneys, Julian, asked her why. She told him she knew the number that the opposing side would pay to settle their case. When asked she told him if you consider me for a job I will give you the number. Beau said a two week trial for everyone. She said fine and told him twenty-three million dollars or twenty million ten thousand Euros. She went on to say she just increased their profit to four million. The point being that she used the fact that she was invisible to her advantage. We should all do that today, don’t you agree?
