Leftovers

I saw an article today about a woman who stopped inviting one of her friends because she took all the leftovers. The truth is she wanted some for herself. She loves to cook so she throws frequent dinner parties. Now she is wondering if she did the right thing. When I cook for family that visits, I always make sure there are plenty of leftovers. Of course, in my family it is always Irish Bread. Many guests appreciate leftovers and have the good manners to ask. Often people do make extra foods for the guests to take home. There have been times when I have traveled that I made Irish Bread at home and brought it on a plane. The airport monitors often would often ask if there was any extra. In many families leftovers are tossed into the garbage, although some families now have compost piles to help secure fresh foods in their gardens. We shouldn’t waste as many people often go hungry. There are restaurants that at the end of the day quiety donate leftovers to food banks or shelters. There are families who sometimes give leftovers to their pets. I think it is important to help others even in a small way. You have to realize that a little help goes a long way. What do you do with your leftovers? In the Good Gus series the soil was rich from scraps and the animals ate any leftovers. The books have interesting stories that many children have truly loved. I hope you will try the series for your family. “Misplaced Trust” would be an ideal book to read in the aftrnoon sun now that Spring is here.
