Hidden Beauty

Many individuals have hidden beauty but fail to see it. It is both inside and out.  Elinor Donahue who was an actress  in ‘Father Knows Best’ also played in the ‘Andy Griffith Show’ as a pharmacist in his show. She ran a pharmacy that included candies and cosmetics. There is an episode from ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ that I always liked. One day a farm girl came to town without her dad. Everyone called her Frankie as she worked with him on their farm. Elinor who played Ellie Walker decided when Frankie came in that she would give her a make over. It was unheard of in those days. When she finished Frankie whom Ellie now called Frances could not believe her hidden beauty. When Andy walked into the pharmacy he told her just how lovely she was. Andy decided to give her a ride to her farm and Ellie tagged along. When they arrived at the farm the dad was furious. He told her to get out of those fancy clothes and get back to work. Ellie objected and kept referring to her as Frances. Finally Andy had an idea. He said he agreed with the dad but wanted to try a little experiment. There were farmhands working on the other side of the fence and Andy brought Frances over and sat her on the fence. Then he wwalked back to Ellie and the Dad. He then pointed out as the men started coming over to speak to Frances that a son-in-law would be much more handy than his daughter. The dad realized that her hidden beauty was indeed quite valuable, wouldn’t you agree? When you child chooses to read the Good Gus series they will find hidden beauty in all of the characters.
