Littering

Why do people litter?  It is impossible to understand except that they are too lazy to put their trash in an appropriate receptacle. I saw an article today about tourists in Italy.  The woman complained that Americans in particular do not dispose of their waste properly. The pictures spoke volumes. What amazes me is that there are receptacles everywhere in all countries.  It takes practically no effort and even if you are not in your own country.  In Ireland, the trash is an issue.  However, the street sweepers clean every day except holidays and Sundays.  You should see the sidewalks and streets on their off days.  Ladybird Johnson started a campaign years ago to stop littering.  Today, Texas has the highest fines for throwing your trash wherever you please.  If you notice as you drive along freeways, highways and even heavily congested areas, the litter is everywhere.  It makes you wonder.  I have seen the county workers cleaning up the freeways and I was shocked to see the size of the trash bags and the amount of them in their trailers.  It is beyond comprehension.  If you would not throw trash on the floor in your home, why do you do it for others to clean up after you on sidewalks, roads and streets.  We are all responsible for our own actions.  It seems foolish to me that we have to pay salaries to county, city, town, and state employees to clean up after lazy slobs.  So when people complain about taxes, wages for government employees, they might want to rethink about littering, don’t you agree?
