Friend

Today a family friend rang me.  I have known him since he gave guitar lessons to my daughter.  I have helped him when his parents had passed.  He did inherit land and a man he had known for over thrity years became a manager for him for land he inherited from his parents outside of Austin, Texas. He is still teaching guitar but he did have news that could have come right from my book. He decided to develp the land.  It was a good time the past few years as many individuals and families had moved from primarily California to the greater Austin area. He spent a great deal of time, money and effort to develop the land and had it had it surveyed into sizeable lots of a few acres each.  Now to the present. Today he told me that his wonderful friend lied, cheated and stole from him. Now he is involved with an attorney to resolve the issue.  It makes you wonder if you believe a person is your friend, if they are truly.  In life we just don’t know anymore.  Being loyal and true doesn’t seem to exist.  I do have a few friends that really are true and loyal to me which I really appreciate.  I saw an article today about a couple who had been married for a while.  Suddenly the wife developed cancer and became ill.  In the beginning the husband stood by her but over time it began to wear on him.  One day the wife’s sister went to their home only to catch him with another woman in their bedroom. At first she didn’t know if she should tell her sister than she realized she was being moved to hospice and should know the truth.  The husband had tricked her with a Will so that he would inherit everything once she passed.  The girlfriend moved into their home and was thrilled at the possibility of becoming wealthy.  After a period of time when the husband was sure the wife had passed he tried to obtain a death certificate.  Finally when her sister wouldn’t give him one he hired an attorney. He brought all of his paperwork and met at the office and the sister was also present.  As the husband began asking questions the attorney told him they were waiting for one more person. All of a sudden the door opened and in walked his wife. She had recovered while in hospice.  He was livid. When he returned home, the girlfriend left him because he had no money.  Talk about a true friend. How do you feel about these two stories? Do you believe you have a true friend?
