Bored

How often are you bored? Both children and adults are often bored. I am not quite sure why. Years ago if you were a child you simply went out to play. The threats of violence didn’t even exist. We all played in the neighborhood and often games on the street such as kickball, a form of tag, easy baseball with a soft ball and so much more. Frequently, as kids we would be dropped at a lake with a lunch to play for the day. There was always a lifeguard and many families but we weren’t necessarily accompanied by an adult.  Now with everything turned upside down we live in fear from danger. I constantly see an ad about predators in a neighborhood that is offered for free to anyone who downloads it. We also did not have the technology that exists today. Now kids play on tablets and IPads. There are games, YouTube, short reels, videos and friend chatting. I would think though that they might still become bored. If we compalined about being bored we were immediately given chores. We learned quite quickly never to say that. Sometimes, as I lived with my grandparents in the city before living in the suburbs, I was told to read a book after the chores. I doubt seriously that children read books unless absolutely necessary now. It is a skill they utilize for technology. Yet reading expands their horizons and imaginations. Without it where would all the famous writers be?  I have always loved reading and can still often be seen cooking holding a book in one hand and a wooden spoon in the other making some type of food.
