Do you know people who have poor hygene? Miss Patty and I worked with a man who didn’t seem to the know the meaning of showering or deoderant. We attended school when we were young, good hygene was a class we had once a week. It may have been the school nurse who discussed, bathing, brushing our teeth and not wearing our clothes particularly when they were dirty. Most parents by then had washing machines so the majority of the students did wear clean clothes every day. Mine were primarily used and from a thrift shop but I always made sure they were clean. We had a washer in the basement that when it came time to spin you had to sit on it otherwise it would jump all over the floor. Of course, the worse part about this was that most families didn’t have dryers so we had to hang them out. It was awful for me in the winter. My hands, even with gloves, would turn to ice. The second worst part was bringing them back in, half the time half frozen, and I would have to spread them around all the radiators. Today it is not quite the same. Often people do not shower for days on end. Between the smell of their clothes and them it is quite unpleasant. How man times have you passed these people in a department store? Probably more than you wish to say. I know a man who only has his child bathe once a week. At that time, he washes her hair. Sometimes he forgets and she reeks which is quite sad. She also would sleep in the clothes she wore to school for at least two or three days. I taught my children early on that a bath or a shower was mandatory and to put their dirty clothes in their hamper. It made it easier for me to collect. What do you do to prevent poor hygene?
