Whether you like him or not or believe the rumors about him, Michael Jackson was very intelligent. He was brilliant at marketing. I saw a video yesterday about one of his performances. The auditorium was packed. He walked onto the stage with limited lighting carrying a box. He put the box on a table and opened it. Inside was his jacket, a hat and of course, his white glove. The crowd went wild as he lifted each item from the box. He started with the jacket and twirled around. Then he added he hat that he often flipped off and on and around. Finally, when he took out the white glove the crowd went wild. Then the music started. He knew exactly how to put his act together and give the audience the enjoyment they were seeking. His strategies for promoting himself were outstanding. There were probably many celebrities that should have contacted him because he was so brilliant at marketing. Using a gimick is a good way to keep an audience’s attention. Advertising agencies use it all the time. Often they can take a product that has the right potential just not the right marketing. Today, of course, you need social media. That is one of the ways celebrities and people who wish to be become popular. When you think about the older celebrities their style is what made them. Dean Martin always had a drink and pretended to be lit. Frank Sinatra was impeccably dressed. There were many celebrities that never appeared in public without looking in style. Even just to go to the grocery, the men wore possible a dressy sports shirt with slacks and leather shoes. The women wore a dress with leather shoes. In the fifties they even wore a hat and gloves. Now people wear lounge pants, pajamas, slippers and other apparel.Companies pay large sums of money to advertising agencies for them to be brilliant at marketing. Do you believe that they really are?
