Soft Answer

When I read the words ‘soft answer’ it occured to me that the world needs many more of this type of response. When people answer in a rude manner, the best response is not to answer back in a rude nasty tone. This only prolongs the problem. When people are arguing or fighting horrible words are generally spoken. However, if one person took the high road and did not answer in a negative way it could diffuse the situation. This is certainly true with all of the ‘Karens’ in the world. They are rude, nasty and feel entitled. They are also self righteous which is a word I had forgotten but heard yesterday. Let me give you an example. This is a story I heard that Miss Patty thought was quite funny. A woman walked into a doctor’s office. The receptionist asked if she had an appointment. Before even answering yes the woman said, “What kind of person are you piercing your ears? I would never to that to myself.” The receptionist replied with a soft answer, “The doctor will be ready shortly please take a set.” She was smart and did not respond to the rude remarks. Then a woman and her son walked into the office. The boy was wearing the current style of ripped jeans and had blue in his hair. Of course, this self righteous woman could not remain quiet. She turned to the mother and said, “What kind of mother are you allowing ripped jeans and blue hair? I would never allow my son to go out in public looking that way.” Again, this lady was also smart and didn’t respond. Finally, she was called back to the doctor and he asked what seem to be the trouble. She responded she was having headaches. His reply was priceless. He said, “Well maybe your halo is too tight.” In the Good Gus series, Bad Bart was demanding. Sheriff Gus, rather than respond in an unfavorable tone, replied with a soft answer which, naturally took Bad Bart aback. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
