Don’t Fix It

There is an old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It is applicable in many cases but not in everything in life. Often what really happens is a person starts tinkering with something and before you know it, they have not only broken the item but made it irreparable.  I saw a show today set back in the late 1960’s. It was about the many groups that were against the government.  Their motto was, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. ”  Of course they were going off on the government.  The groups back then are now the employees of the government today.  This theory can also apply to cooking recipes.  Many of the old recipes are still fine today.  However, all the new chefs feel that they can be modified.  It may be true of some foods and styles, but not everything.  New ways of cooking can definitely be utilized and appreciated.  I still love the old Fanny Farmer Cookbook. A member of my family attended the school in I think the 1930’s or 1940’s. No it does not have baking times, but it is easy enough to figure out.  The new book is much thicker but equally as good. I also guess that this theory may apply sometimes to technology. We continue to advance at amazing strides but many people have fears about it. Do you?
