Consumeristic

Many parts of the world are a consumeristic society.  It’s all about possessions.  What is sad is that there are so many parts of the world where people are desperate for food, clean water and shelter that it almost seems absurd. However, that is the way of the world.  Even the communistic countries have fallen under the consumeritic spell.  Products do make the world go round.  The modern day factories that manufacture everything from clothes, cars, airplanes, toys, heaters, air conditioners, generators and now even tiny homes along with the standard size manufactured home.  This consumerism provides jobs which in turn feeds, clothes and gives shelter to millions of people.  However, the consumeristic society often goes too far.  The companies that manufacture for the very wealthy is also part of the equation. The mark ups on their products has to be over one thousand percent.  When you look at purses, shoes, briefcases, dresses, suits, coats and other accessories the prices are quite high.  When I look at the price of a product, regardless of what it is, I stop and think about the cost.  If the price is really high I think about what that specific amount would pay for.  For example, I recently saw women’s purses on sale for just a little over six hundred dollars or six hundred fifty-four Euros.  If you calculate that price it would cover a week’s groceries, an electric bill, petrol for your vehicle and possibly your wi-fi bill.  That is not always the case but it is a best case scenario.  I can see paying a decent price say one hundred dollars or one hundred nine Euros for a leather briefcase or purse.  In life though the consumertic cultrue must always buy the latest and greatest.  It truthfully keeps the technology business soaring. I like the idea of having nice things but not go crazy with too much of anything. How do you feel about the consumeristic culture?
