Divorce

Divorce is a sore subject for anyone who has had to go through it.  Recently a relative told me that he was getting divorced.  It was not his choice.  He and his wife have four children and he is asking her to consider counseling.  She has declined and told him to move out.  He doesn’t know why this is happening.  Sadly, everyone else has already figured out she has a new man. It is very sad and will be difficult on the children.  Many years ago couples stayed together for the children, but not any more.  This is the ‘me’ generation.  It is all about them and what they want.  There is no regard for keeping the family together and trying to work it out.  I saw an old episode of “Garage Sale Mysteries” recently.  The show’s premise is that two women run a second hand store of items they find at garage sales.  Lori Loughlin is the star and, of course, she always gets involved in murder mysteries.  On this particular show, a husband and wife kept bringing items into the shop for sale.  They always came separately.  Over time, Lori a/k/a Jennifer and her partner, Danielle, began to figure out the couple didn’t really want a divorce.  Both the man and woman said there was no hope.  Jennifer felt differently.  Both ladies continued to collect their items that they wanted to sell but they secretly hid them in the back of the shop.  Jennifer came up with the idea of trying to make them change their minds.  Dani set up a table with all their good china, candlesticks, and silver from their wedding.  Dani discovered they ate Chinese food on their first date.  So, they arranged with each partner to arrive at their shop after closing.  At first they were upset, but the ladies brought them to their lovely table.  Once they sat down they began to realize that divorce was not what they wanted as they still loved each other.  Marriage is never easy but divorce is a difficult task.  There are extreme reasons why people do go their separate ways often due to violence, abuse, addictions or even the treatment by a narcissist. It all matters but in the end the health and safety of the individuals and the families is what is really important.  I do know families that have had every adult child get divorced, do you?
