HOA

The Homeowner Associations or HOA’s have become power hungry over the years. I was on the board of one for eight years.  The man who was president had an attitude that he owned the whole community and everything had to be whatever he said or else.  I just saw another HOA in Arizona. The homeowners have been fighting for three years as the HOA has been steadily removing all their trees.  The trees actually gave more value to the homes not to mention shade in the summer and are just pleasant to look at.  The article stated that most residents moved there simply because of the trees. My daughter has a property in Texas that also has an HOA.  First of all, the roads are horrible.  They have never been repaired and they have to destroy the drive train and alignment of all vehicles.  They don’t even smooth them out.  They are extremely rough and quite bumpy.  After several years, the board was voted out and a new board was elected.  The first item on their agenda was to remove all of the HOA fees.  The whole area is delighted.  The former board had millions of rules not of which were applicable. They demanded fees that no one is sure where the money went but absolutely noting to do with the community or its improvement. My former board, once the power hungry person was voted out, ran much smoother.  The roads were kept up to par. If any street lights went out they were replaced quite quickly. The pool was always maintained and the greenery was mowed, trees were trimmed and the overall appearance was nice.  The current president is quite good and the woman before him was also excellent. They were and are fair people and cared about the community. The people who move into specific areas that are controlled by an HOA expect to live in a nice community without many issues.  How do you feel about HOA’s?
