Care

I saw a quote today, “to make a difference in anyone’s life all you have to do is care.” I loved it. I saw a video about a woman who secretly went around assisting homeless people.  She asked to borrow their jacket and then she quietly returned it with first aid supplies, non perishable foods, and toiletries.  I thought it was lovely.  You do not have to make huge displays to show you care.  All you need to do is be kind in small simple ways.  For example, if you are passing a homeless person while waiting in your car at a light and they are asking for money or food, it takes only a moment to give them a water or if you are leaving the grocery a drink or a small snack.  It brightens their day and yours as well.  Not everyone who is begging or homeless is on drugs.  Many people have lost their jobs, then homes, cars, and before long they take what they can to live on the street.  There are groups that are drug addicts and they tend to hang in their own areas.  This is also applicable to individuals who have accepted living on the streets and no longer wish to return to a stable life with a home and a job.  We all make our choices, some of which are good, others not so much. It is the holiday season so possibly passing along kindness and showing people you care could be part of the reason for the season. It is also nice to remember our neighbors. My daughter wants me to start baking so we can visit various individuals particuarly the people who are alone frequently.  I began cooking when I was three with my grandmother. Of course, then I only made Irish food. Eventually I learned from a neighbor how to make other ethnic foods. I like all receipes that become foods that taste well. How do you feel about lending a helping hand and caring during the holiday season? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
