Abandon

What is  it about people who abandon others?  I have never understood it.  I think it is an excuse.  They don’t want to deal with a person, relative, family or a parent. The men or women who abandon their families are cowards.  A very long time ago when I first started working as a paralegal there was a woman who worked there as the receptionist.  At that time I was living in California. I was completely shocked when she told me she was leaving her husband and children to go to New Jersey to live with her boyfriend.  Then and now I cannot understand her leaving her children. Although the world selfish comes to me.  I guess it is the people who do not consider others.  When a man or woman deserts their family they cause a great deal of hurt and problems.  The children cannot understand why they left and tend to blame themselves. The parent in charge now has to hire sitters, find after school programs and possibly work a second job.  It all takes its toll on the family. The lonely relative who has no one to take care of them is another case.  Many families have aunts and uncles who never had any children. I had an aunt that was in that situation.  She refused to live with anyone.  My late cousin bought her groceries every week.  My aunt walked everyday. She was healthy but preferred to live alone.  I called her twice a week.  Once on Wednesday and again on Saturday.  There were two things I had to remember about the times to call her.  One was that she did not wish to be interrupted if a baseball game was on and it was her favorite team. The second was on Saturday night listening to Lawrence Welk.  I also wrote her a letter once a week. Between the two of us we looked after her. Years ago the government blamed all the people on the dole because of abandonment.  Do you think that is still true today? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
