Being Used

Everyone hates being used.  It truly hurts.  The fact that a person will pretend to like you and use you to get what they want is horrible.  In the movie, “Groundswell,” Lacey Chabert stars as a chef originally working in Atlanta, Georgia.  I like this movie and particularly love the scenery. It is gorgeous. The owner of the restaurant hired her when she was a line cook.  Her talents were outstanding.  One day when a famous critic was eating at his restaurant, Lacey prepared a tastey meal followed by a wonderful dessert.  The chef who was also her boyfriend always assured her she would be introduced to the famous critic and would receive full credit for her recipes.  Well, basically when she brought the dessert the chef brushed her off and sent her back to the kitchen. Then when the critic came back for his phone and she was standing by the table the chef dismissed her again.  It  was at that point she realized that she was being used.  Of course, she did the smart move and quit and went to visit her aunt in Hawaii. Of course, as all stories go there is a cooking competition.  A friend of her aunt’s that owned a restaurant was planning to compete when his co-chef fell at the fish market and broke her arm.  The aunt instantly recommended her niece.  The worst part about the judges for this competition is one of them was her former boss and boyfriend.  She was polite to him, but the judge said he missed her. The restaurant owner and the niece worked well together at the competition. For the third round they had to use a specific vegetable similar to the potato. She had a signature dish that she had made for the critic who really liked it.  Her ex was so mean that he gave the recipe to two other people competing which forced her to change her recipe.  Even if she didn’t feel she was being used, this was the final straw for her.  All ends well of course.  How many times have people in the workplace been used?  I have written about being used in the workplace and others taking credit for their work.  Have you ever been hurt by being used?
