Indifference

Yesterday I saw on the Italian news an article about a little boy in Vietnam who was searching for scrap metal for money.  Many of the comments indicated that indifference is causing catastrophes in the world today and I believe they were right. Those huge traps should have been sealed over after the ending of the war.  The problem with indifference is that many people don’t seem to care any more.  If it is not about them or their lives they are not interested.  For example, the homeless started many years ago.  People lost their jobs, then their homes and then their cars.  They ended up on the street because no one cared.  They tried to obtain any type of job, but the lack of caring by managers or supervisors kept them from gainful employment.  There are numerous videos on Facebook about people helping others restart their lives with jobs.  It doesn’t take much just a helping hand. There are the homeless who are addicted to drugs and have mental problems and do not want help. I remember years ago the government decided that the sanitariums and facilities for the individuals with psychological issues needed to live on their own.  They were overcrowded and didn’t have the funding.  This is what originally led to an increased population of homeless.  There are programs today and there is help.  Just remember kindness is free.  In the Good Gus series indifference did not exist.  Everyone helped each other which I felt was an important lesson for the young reader. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Hard copies, personally autographed, are available through our website www.goodgusbooks.com along with past blogs for your reading enjoyment.
