Scammers

Recently I have seen a couple of videos about alleged scammers. For example, on Facebook, a boy about six or seven was selling small bottles of water on the street for three dollars or three Euros and eighteen cents. It was a regular sized bottle.  A woman who was running for public office was in her car with her teenage daughter. The boy asked her to buy a bottle. He looked in need and he said he was homeless and his mother was ill.  The woman brushed him off but her daughter said he might truly be in need.  The mother said he was just another one of those scammers.  She drove a little further as there was a great deal of traffic and dropped her daughter at a yoga class.  Her car overheated so the boy took one of his bottles and filled the radiator while she had the hood up.  She demanded to know what he was doing and he replied he was just trying to help. She ignored him.  When she returned in an hour the boy was in the same location.  She picked up her daughter and the car overheated again. The boy gave her his last water. This time the daughter insisted that they help him. They followed him to his mother and not only was she really sick but they were indeed homeless.  Finally, she realized that they needed help which she provided.  A second example was a skit I saw on “Modern Family.” The dad, Phil, was with the boys who had to do their civic duty and were picking up trash in the park.  A man walked up to Phil acting like he knew him. He told him his wallet and phone had been stolen and asked if he could  give him so money so he could get help. Phil did and all the boys except Manny told him he had been cheated.  When Phil saw the man again later he saw him speaking to another man the same way as if he knew him too. Then Phil decided he was a scammer and had all the boys dump the trash in his convertible.  When the man returned, he asked Phil why.  When Phil explained he didn’t like being taken advantage of pretending he knew him, the man replied, “You do know me. I delivered Luke fifteen years ago.”  Yes there are so many scammers in the world today.  Once in a while people really do need help, don’t you agree?
